This organization claims the following yet it is NOT following its intent as noted in the prior posting. It is NOT attempting to validate certificates NOR IS IT TRYING to access port 443. SSL Sonar is an internet security research project that monitors the global use of SSL certificates, which the public relies on to ensure the security of their internet use. SSL Sonar is a Rapid7 Labs project spearheaded by HD Moore. This project has three main goals. Identifying the use of fraudulent and insecure SSL certificates Measuring global exposure to common vulnerabilities Tracking specific strains of malware SSL Sonar gathers data by identifying all computers on the internet with a public IP address that have TCP port 443 open. Once a computer is identified as meeting these criteria, SSL Sonar attempts to negotiate the SSL protocol with this computer and records the SSL certificate presented. http://sslsonar.org/
